Introduction
The Directorate of Industrial Health and Safety ensures the health, safety, and welfare of workers employed in factories and industrial establishments. It enforces various labour, welfare, and environmental laws in the state.
Factories Act, 1948; Payment of Wages Act, 1936; Maternity Benefit Act, 1961; Environmental Protection Act, 1986; Hazardous Waste Rules, 1989; Chemical Accident Rules, 1996; BOCW Act, 1996; and other relevant state rules.
The Directorate operates under the Labour Department and is led by the Chief Inspector of Factories, supported by Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and Inspectors. They oversee inspections, enforce safety standards, and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation. Occupational health experts, laboratory personnel, and industrial hygiene professionals support these operations.
